What is an AI workspace?
Published September 2026. About a 9 minute read.
In one sentence
An AI workspace is a shared place where a team's AI assistant works with standing context about the company, access to the team's tools, permissions that decide what it can see and do, and answers everyone on the team can read and correct.
An AI workspace is a shared place where a team's AI assistant works with standing context about the company, access to the team's tools, permissions that decide what it can see and do, and answers everyone on the team can read and correct. The term gets confused with Google Workspace, since Google uses the same word for its own suite. Gemini in Google Workspace is AI added to documents and email, not a workspace built around the AI. One bolts an assistant onto tools you already had; the other starts from the AI and builds the place your team works around it.

Talk to GlitchWhat's inside an AI workspace?
An AI workspace holds a handful of things a plain chatbot doesn't. Shared memory keeps facts about the company so nobody explains the business from scratch every time, and a correction one person makes sticks for the next person who asks. Department context means an answer in the finance channel starts from finance's own numbers and tools, not a generic reply. And it holds real tools it can run on the team's behalf: reading a connected store or inbox, drafting a document, scheduling a recurring check.
Permissions decide who can talk to it, what it can see, and what it can do alone versus with a person's sign off. A cost meter keeps the AI's own spending visible instead of a mystery line on a bill. And it lives in the place the team already talks, a channel or a chat, instead of a separate tab nobody opens twice.
How is an AI workspace different from a chatbot?
A personal chatbot answers whoever is typing, in that moment, with no memory of the company once the tab closes. Ask it about your business and you get a blank page, then a few paragraphs of setup before the real question gets answered. An AI workspace starts from context it already has, and the answer lands somewhere the rest of the team can read it too.
The difference isn't always the model underneath. A chatbot and an AI workspace can run on the exact same AI model and still behave completely differently, because the difference is what surrounds the model: standing context, a shared home, tools it can use, and permissions that decide what happens next. A chatbot is a tool you open, ask, and close. A workspace is a place the whole team already is.
How is an AI workspace different from AI features added to a suite?
Google Workspace with Gemini, Notion AI, and Microsoft Copilot all put a real AI assistant next to documents, pages, or email. That's genuinely useful when the work already lives in the suite: drafting inside a doc, summarizing a meeting, answering a question about a page you already had open. The assistant meets you exactly where you were already working.
The structural difference is where the context and the memory live. AI added to a suite mostly knows what the signed-in person already has access to in that suite: their mail, their files, their meetings. An AI workspace keeps memory for the company as a whole, gathered from the team's conversations, corrected in public, and carried into the next answer for anyone who asks, not just the person who happened to be logged in.
Neither shape is wrong. A team whose work is mostly documents and email is well served by AI added to the suite it already runs on. A team whose work is mostly conversation, questions, decisions, and coordination is the one an AI workspace is built for.

What are some examples of AI workspaces?
Glitch Team Zone is one example: a shared chat the whole company works in, with a live company snapshot, ten department surfaces, and an AI teammate that runs the org's tools and answers where everyone can see it.
Notion AI lives inside Notion's pages, and does its best work writing, summarizing, and answering questions over a workspace's own documents. Coworker.ai is an enterprise AI platform built for organizations with large tool fleets and a sales process that runs through a demo. Dust is a platform for building AI agents on a company's own connected knowledge, suited to a team with someone who wants to design the agents rather than just use one.
Google Workspace with Gemini and Microsoft Copilot both put AI inside the documents, mail, and meetings apps a team already runs on, Google's own suite for one, Microsoft 365 for the other. ClickUp Brain adds AI to ClickUp's project management platform as a separate paid tier on top of its per-seat plans. Taskade pairs a docs-and-tasks workspace with AI agents, included across its plans through a shared monthly credit system rather than sold as a separate add-on.
What does a unified AI workspace mean?
Without a unified workspace, AI ends up scattered: one AI for the docs, a different one for the support inbox, another for the spreadsheet, none of them aware the others exist or what happened in yesterday's conversation. A unified AI workspace is the opposite shape. One AI carries one memory across every department, so a fact taught in the finance channel is available when someone asks a people question weeks later, because it's the same AI with the same memory, not a fleet of separate tools.
In Glitch Team Zone that shows up as ten departments on one surface, Finance, Operations, Go to market, Client success, Tech, Admin, Product, Data, People, and Legal, all reachable from the same chat and answered from the same shared memory. Nobody has to remember which tool covers which department, because it's one teammate, not ten.
How do permissions work in an AI workspace?
A permission model for an AI at work has to answer a short list of questions: who's allowed to talk to it, what data it can see, what it's allowed to do on its own versus with a person's approval, who gets to read what it answered, whether someone outside the company can use it safely, and how any of that gets checked later.
In Glitch Team Zone that's roles inside the org, guest channels where the AI answers with no company data at all for outside collaborators, approvals on writes that matter, an audit trail of who did what, and org-level isolation so one company's data is never visible to another's. The next guide covers each of those in full.
How do you pick an AI workspace?
A handful of questions cut through most of the marketing. Does it actually know your business, or does every conversation start from zero? Where does it live, a separate tab you have to remember to open, or the place the team already talks? What happens without anyone asking, does anything arrive on its own, or is every answer on demand?
Who can see what it answers, just the person who asked or the whole team? How is it priced, a seat fee per person or a flat rate for the team, and is the AI itself included or metered separately? And if you leave, do you take your data and the option of your own AI key with you, or does everything stay locked to the product?
What does an AI workspace cost?
Pricing across AI workspaces splits along two lines. Per seat versus flat: some charge by the person, so the bill grows every time someone joins; others charge one flat rate for the whole team no matter how many people are in it. AI included versus AI as an add-on: some fold the AI's own usage into the price, others meter it separately or sell it as its own paid tier on top of the base plan. A few products let a team bring its own AI provider key instead, which moves the usage bill to the provider directly.
Flat monthly tiers starting at $99 for the whole team, with no per-seat pricing. Each plan includes a monthly amount of Glitch's work, and anything extra costs exactly what it costs us, under a limit you set. You can start free without a card.
How do you know an AI workspace is working?
The clearest signal isn't a survey, it's what shows up without anyone asking. A report that posts itself Monday morning. A question answered from the team's actual numbers instead of a spreadsheet someone has to rebuild. A second and third person in the company using it in the same week, not just the person who set it up.
The cost meter is worth watching too, not because spending less is the goal, but because a number you can see is a number you can act on, and a rising cost next to rising use is a very different signal than a rising cost with nothing to show for it. None of this needs a percentage to be real. What arrived on its own, and who's using it, are both things you can just look at.
Common questions
What is an AI workspace?
An AI workspace is a shared place where a team's AI assistant works with standing context about the company, access to the team's tools, permissions that decide what it can see and do, and answers everyone on the team can read and correct. It's built around the AI as the shared surface, not an assistant bolted onto a suite of documents.
What are some examples of an AI workspace?
Glitch Team Zone is one, a shared chat with a company snapshot and ten department surfaces. Notion AI, Coworker.ai, Dust, Google Workspace with Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot each take a different shape, some built around documents and mail, some around building custom agents, some around one shared chat for the whole company.
What is a unified AI workspace?
A unified AI workspace is one AI with one memory across every department, instead of a separate AI tool per department that doesn't know what the others learned. A fact taught once is available everywhere the team asks, because it's the same AI answering.
How do permissions work in an AI workspace?
A permission model decides who can talk to the AI, what data it can see, what it can do alone versus with approval, who can read its answers, and whether outside people can use it safely. In Glitch Team Zone that's org roles, guest channels with no company data for outside collaborators, approvals on writes that matter, and an audit trail.
Is Google Workspace with Gemini an AI workspace?
Not in the sense this guide uses the term. Gemini in Google Workspace is AI added to Google's documents, mail, and meetings, useful exactly where that work already lives. An AI workspace is built the other way around, starting from the AI and giving it a shared home, standing context, and tools across the whole company, not one suite of apps.
Can an AI workspace search across all our documents?
It depends on the product and what's connected. Some AI workspaces, including Glitch Team Zone, answer from what's connected and what the team has shared in conversation, and say plainly when something isn't connected rather than guessing. A workspace built around a document suite, like Notion AI, searches what's inside that suite specifically. Neither searches the open internet for your private documents; the connection has to exist first.
How do you measure the impact of an AI workspace on productivity?
Real signals beat invented percentages: whether reports and checks arrive without anyone asking, whether more than one person on the team is using it in a given week, whether questions get answered from real numbers instead of a rebuilt spreadsheet, and whether the cost meter shows spend that's rising next to visible work rather than rising for no clear reason.
What does an AI workspace cost?
Pricing splits into per seat versus flat, and AI included versus metered as an add-on. Flat monthly tiers starting at $99 for the whole team, with no per-seat pricing, is how Glitch Team Zone prices it.
